Study Visit on ‘Enhancing Capacity in Cotton Varieties Development’ under the Reverse Linkage Project between Bangladesh and Turkey

SESRIC in cooperation with IsDB and project partners organized a Study Visit on “Enhancing Capacity in Cotton Varieties Development" under the Reverse Linkage Project between Bangladesh and Turkey on 4-6 November 2019 in Aydın, Turkey.

The study visit was held as a first activity of the Reverse Linkage Project between Bangladesh and Turkey and aimed to familiarize the Bangladeshi participants about the work, strategies, methodologies and techniques used at different organization and institutions in Turkey as well as private companies involved in cotton research and development.

During the first day of the study visit, the participants went to the Izmir Institute of Technology where they visited the biotechnology laboratory of this institute and observed the research facilities for their upcoming trainees, as well as the research facilities at this institute. Afterwards, they visited a Cooperative Ginning Center managed by cotton farmers group with advanced ginning facilities, observing the fully automatized ginning methods adopted in the Centre.

On the second day, the participants visited Nazilli Cotton Research Institute (CRI), where they acquainted with the Scientists of CRI and their laboratories and familiarized with ongoing research works at the Institute. Moreover, they paid a visit to a private ginning center where they observed the machineries and automatic methods adopted in separating cotton fiber and cotton seed.

On the last day of the study visit, the Bangladeshi participants visited a private oil refinery factory where edible oil from cotton seed is produced. They were satisfied with the huge capacity of the factory and stated their further interest to develop cooperation during the three years life span of the project.
