Statistics Course on ‘Labour Statistics’ in Mauritania

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Statistics Course on ‘Labour Statistics’ at National Statistical Office (ONS) of Islamic Republic Mauritania on 6-8 February 2018.

The Statistics Course was conducted by Mr. Tidiane KAMARA, Economist Statistician at National Agency of Statistics and Demographics (ANSD) of Senegal with the participation of 10 officials of ONS of Mauritania.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 – October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); labour statistics covers statistics on labour force, labour market, employment and unemployment; the more detailed topics include economically active population, labour conditions, health and safety at work (accidents at work, occupational injuries and diseases, work-related health problems), working time and other working conditions, strikes and lockouts, job vacancies, job creation.

The Statistics Course on ‘Labour Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Labour market statistics
  • Descriptive analysis of labour market statistics
  • Case Study: Senegal
  • Employment and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
