Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ in Pakistan

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ at Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on 9 – 11 October 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Tan Bee BEE, Expert from Department of Statistics (DoS) of Malaysia, with the participation of 20 officials of the PBS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); International Trade Statistics – covers statistics on all cross-border transactions recorded in the balance of payments, includes topics like trade in goods and services, external positions and debt, foreign direct investment, foreign affiliated trade, tariffs, market access, foreign aid, development assistance, resource flows to developing countries.

The Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) 2010,
  • Scope and Time of Recording / Trade System,
  • Commodity Classifications (HS 2012 & H2017) / Valuation / Quantity Measurement , and
  • Data Quality and Metadata / Dissemination
