Traditionally associated with food and drink, “Halal” now encompasses a wide range of products and activities, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, finance and media. This expansion is driven by increasing demand from consumers all over the world, as well as global trends towards ethical consumption and sustainability. As a result, the Halal sector has experienced major growth which requires further efforts towards its expansion.

As a response, the Halal Capacity Building Programme (Halal-CaB) of SESRIC has the objective to improve the capacities of relevant national institutions in OIC Member Countries. The Programme facilitates provision of relevant expertise and information for policymakers and exchange of good-practices among the relevant stakeholders. The Halal-CaB also aims to support the relevant national institutions in building strategies, and mapping out policies. In addition, the Programme promotes strengthening public-private sector cooperation to pave the way for a more integrated Halal sector.
