Within the scope of its mandate, the SESRIC continues to carry out and initiate various activities related to tourism development and cooperation in the Member Countries. In this context, SESRIC has developed a section on tourism in its main database "BASEIND", where it regularly updates it.
SESRIC has been regularly preparing the report on "International Tourism in the OIC Countries: Prospects and Challenges" since the 1st Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM), which was held in Isfahan, Iran in 2000. The report has been submitted to the ICTMs and other OIC Meetings on Tourism.
On the other hand, SESRIC organizes, in collaboration with international and national institutions, various training workshops on “Tourism Statistics”. For more information on these workshops please refer to the Capacity Building Programme Main Page.

 The workshop on “Private Sector Cooperation for Enhancing Intra-OIC Tourism” was held in Izmir, Turkey, on 10 December 2010. The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey in accordance with the Resolution adopted by the 26th session of the COMCEC, held in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey, on 5-8 October 2010. The Workshop was attended by representatives of private tourism agencies in some OIC member countries and representatives of the following OIC institutions: COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, ICDT, and ICCI.

 The 7th session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) was held in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, on 28-30 November 2010. The Ministerial Session, which was held on 30 November 2010, was preceded by a two-day Meeting, on 28-29 November 2010, of the Senior Officials preparatory to the 7th Session of the ICTM. Senior Officials from 22 OIC member countries and representatives of the OIC General Secretariat and eight OIC institutions, namely: COMCEC Coordination Office, IRCICA, SESRIC, ICDT, IUT, ISESCO, IDB and ICCI attended the Meeting. The SESRIC was presented at the Conference by Dr. Savas Alpay, the Director General of the Centre, and Mr. Nabil Dabour, Director of Research Department.

The Second Coordination Committee Meeting on the implementation of the “Framework for Development and Cooperation in the Domain of Tourism between the OIC Member States” was held in Antalya, Republic of Turkey, on 24-25 March 2010. The Meeting was attended by the representatives of the following Members of the Committee: Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Senegal, Syria and Turkey. The representatives of the OIC General Secretariat and those of the following OIC institutions also attended the Meeting: SESRIC, IRCICA, ICDT, IUT, ISESCO, ICCI and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO). Mr. Nabil Dabour, Director of Research Department represented SESRIC at the Meeting.

 The Sixth Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) was held in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, on 29 June - 2 July 2008. It was preceded by a two-day Meeting of the Senior Officials on 29-30 June. Representatives from 32 member countries, the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the Arab Tourism Organisation, Iran cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organisation, the General Secretariat of the OIC and its subsidiary, specialised and affiliated institutions attended the Conference. Dr. Savas Alpay, Director General, and Mr. Nabil Dabour, Acting Director of Research Department, represented the Centre thereat.

OIC Member Countries Discussed A Draft Strategic Plan for Tourism Development
 The Republic of Turkey hosted and organized the 2nd Experts Group Meeting on Tourism Development in Istanbul on 9-11 May 2007 with the participant of 24 member countries, the General Secretariat of the OIC, COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRTCIC, ICDT, IRCICA, IUT, ISESCO and ICYF. The participants discussed and accepted the “Draft Strategic Plan for Tourism Development in the OIC Member States”, which has been proposed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.
 The Plan identifies certain means and modalities of implementation of the “Programme of Action” specified under the “Tourism” area of the Plan of Action to Strengthen Economic and Commercial Cooperation among Member States of the OIC. The Strategic Plan will be submitted to the 23rd Session of the COMCEC, which will be held in Istanbul in November 2007, for consideration by the OIC Ministries of Economic and Trade, and then for the 6th for Islamic Conference of Ministers of Tourism, which will be held in Damascus, Syria in 2008 for approval. Mr. Nabil Dabour, Senior Researcher, represented the Centre at the Meeting and presented a paper titled ““International Tourism in the OIC Countries: Prospects and Challenges”.
