The Council of Foreign Ministers, which meets once a year, considers the means for the implementation of the general policy of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) by, inter alia, adopting decisions and resolutions on matters of common interest in the implementation of the objectives and the general policy of the OIC; and reviewing progress of the implementation of the decisions and resolutions adopted at the previous Summits and Councils of Foreign Ministers. The decisions of the Council of Foreign Ministers are implemented by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
So far thirty six Councils of Foreign Ministers have been held. SESRIC regularly participates in the Council of Foreign Ministers along with other subsidiary, specialised and affiliated organs and committees of the OIC.

The 39th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) has been held in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti on 15-17 November 2012. Foreign Ministers of the Member Countries focused on the problems that Member Countries are facing currently and discussed sound strategies to promote peace and development of the Islamic Ummah and strengthen solidarity and cooperation among OIC Member States.
At the kind invitation of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the 38th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (Session of Peace, Cooperation and Development), was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, on 28-30 June 2011.
The 37th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) (Session of Shared Vision of a More Secure and Prosperous Islamic World) was held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan from 4 to 6 Jamadul Thani 1431 H (18th -20th May 2010). A wide range of issues of interest to the Member States were discussed during the Meeting and resolutions were adopted by the Council concerning the Palestinian Cause and the Middle East; Other issues such as; Political Affairs; Ten-Year Programme of Action; Statutory, Organic and General Matters; Legal Affairs; Conditions of Muslim Minorities and Communities in non-OIC Member States; Information Affairs; Administrative and Financial and Humanitarian Affairs were also discussed during the Council.
The 36th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Member States of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) was held in the Syrian capital Damascus, from 23 to 25 May 2009, under the theme 'Promoting Islamic Solidarity'.
The 35th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held on 18-20 June 2008 in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda and was attended by representatives from 53 Member States, the General Secretariat of the OIC and its subsidiary, specialised and affiliated institutions. Dr. Savaş Alpay, Director General of the SESRIC, represented the Centre thereat.
