Third Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group

The Third Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on February 27th, 2014 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme "Facilitating Intra-OIC Trade: Improving the Efficiency of Customs Procedures". The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 21 OIC Member States including Bangladesh, Cameroon, Comoros, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen. The Centre was represented thereat by Dr. Kenan Bağcı, Senior Researcher. Representatives of the COMCEC Coordination Office, ITFC/IDB, ICDT, SMIIC, UNCTAD, World Customs Organization (WCO) and Gümrük ve Ticaret İşletmeleri (GTI) of Turkey also attended the Meeting.

During the meeting, the delegations were briefed about the studies on " Facilitating Intra-OIC Trade: Improving the Efficiency of Customs Procedures in the OIC Member Countries" and on "COMCEC Trade Outlook 2014" prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office. The delegations also shared their experiences, achievements and challenges regarding trade facilitation and customs procedures in their countries and representatives of Malaysia and Turkey made presentations on their success stories. Representatives of UNCTAD, WCO and GTI made presentations on different aspects of trade facilitation.

The Forth Meeting of the Trade Working Group will be held on 23 October 2014 in Ankara, Turkey with a focus on trade liberalization and regional trade agreements.
