SESRIC Participated in the 22nd Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group

SESRIC participated in the 22nd Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) Tourism Working Group, held virtually on 2 May 2024. The meeting, which brought together 47 representatives from 13 OIC member countries’ relevant national public and private institutions as well as international and regional organisations responsible for tourism, focused on the theme “Developing and Branding Gastronomy Tourism Destinations within OIC”.

During the meeting, SESRIC delivered a presentation titled “Exploring International Tourism Trends and Potential of Gastronomic Branding in OIC Countries”. The presentation covered the current trends and developments in tourism industry before delving into the challenges and prospects of branding gastronomy tourism in OIC countries. Effective branding strategies were highlighted as the key to promoting and developing gastronomy tourism, based on analysis of current developments and best practices. Throughout the presentation, the participants were briefed about the Centre’s activities and the efforts made at the OIC-level to improve the OIC countries’ national capacities in the domain.

The technical sessions of the meeting included deliberations on the prepared draft research report. It highlighted lessons learned from selected case studies as well as experiences and perspectives on the theme of the meeting provided by the representatives, such as University of Jordan and Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development – GO Türkiye (TGA), etc.
