General Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health

The Resolution of the Standardization Department regarding the adoption of the new OIC/SMIIC Standard on “General Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health” has been recently announced by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).

The aims of the guidelines are to set common standards to be implemented across the OIC region where the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) seeks to ensure the protection of consumers and the interoperability of products, and also to strengthen marketplace position of the OIC Member States in the global economy while fostering innovation and free trade initiatives. The scope of these guidelines is to standardize the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) level in all OIC countries.

The guidelines have been prepared by the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC OSHNET) Members in collaboration with SESRIC and SMIIC. General requirements include work accidents, work equipment, workplace design, first aid equipment, safety and health of employers and employees.

The guideline also looks at topics under risk assessment, occupational health and safety training, physical factors, chemical factors, biological factors, ergonomics, machinery and hand tools, safe working at height, emergency and personal protective equipment titles.

These new guidelines are applicable to all sectors of activity, both public and private industrial, agricultural, commercial, administrative, service, educational, cultural, leisure, etc.
