Training Programme: 'Recognition and Prevention of Diabetes' in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in collaboration with Doctors Worldwide, organised a training programme on "Recognition and Prevention of Diabetes" within the framework of the IbnSina Health Capacity Building Programme (IbnSina-HCaB) at the National Office of Occupational Medicine in Nouakchott, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, on 14-16 May 2014. The Course was provided by Dr. Dede Şit and Dr. Ahmet Engin Atay, medical specialists in Turkey.

The training course on "Recognition and Prevention of Diabetes" mainly covered the following themes:

  • Diabetes Subgroups
  • Pathogenetic mechanisms
  • Microvascular and macrovascular complications
  • Oral anti-diabetics
  • Insulin Modalities
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis and others
  • Diabetic foot care and treatment
  • Management of hypoglycaemia
  • Preventive procedures
