SESRIC endeavours to enhance cooperation with all related national, regional and international institutions aiming at assessing training needs and capacities of the OIC Member Countries in order to effectively plan and implement training programmes and workshops through matching needs and capacities of the related institutions of the OIC Member Countries.
The training programmes and workshops of the Centre were initiated in 1981. Ever since, the Centre has been organising short-term training programmes and workshops in selected fields of interest to the OIC Member Countries, in collaboration with national, regional and international institutions. Towards this end, the Centre also collaborates with the UN Specialised Agencies which provides technical support to the Centre for the realisation of its training programmes and workshops.
Another increasingly important aspect of the Centre's Capacity Building Programme has been the enrolment of participants of its own choice into well-established training programmes and workshops in the Member Countries. All in all, over 1000 participants from the OIC Member Countries have benefitted and/or had a chance to present their expertise. One important and differentiating feature of the Centre’s training activities is the substantially lower costs at which these programmes on average are realised.
In this respect, SESRIC is currently organising its activities under the following five major categories:
