Training Course on 'Livestock Management: Breeding Cattle Raising and Improvement' in Brunei

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on “Livestock Management: Breeding Cattle Raising and Improvement” in Brunei on 26-27 June 2013, within the framework of OIC Agriculture Capacity Building Programme (OIC-AgriCaB). The Course was provided by Dr. Sema Yaman, Head of Feeds and Animal Nutrition Division, Livestock Central Research Institute, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey with participation of relevant scientists and agronomists of Department of Agriculture & Agrifood Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources of Brunei.

The training programme mainly covered the following subjects:

  • Likeness between relatives and inbreeding depression, correction of records for non-genetic factors
  • Selection of dams, selection of bulls
  • Selection for economic value in dairy cattle breeding

    • Herd management (Breeding and nutrition of calves and heifers, records)
  • Beef cattle breeding systems
  • Cattle breed types
  • Effective breeding plan for beef cattle rearing
  • Economical advantage of good management in beef cattle rearing
