SESRIC’s Visit to Qatar University

A SESRIC delegation comprised of Eng. Huseyin Hakan Eryetli, Director of IT and Publication Department and Mr. Mehmet Fatih Serenli, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation Department visited Continuing Education Office of Qatar University (QU) in Doha on May 20th, 2010. The SESRIC delegation was accompanied by Mr. Khalid Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Head of Human Resources at Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) and welcomed by Dr. Tajalsir Ibrahim Kardaman, Director of Continuing Education Office at QU.

After exchanging a few welcoming remarks, Dr. Kardaman briefed the SESRIC Delegation about the activities of the Continuing Education Office where he emphasised their cooperation with Qatar Statistics Authority in the training of statisticians working in various governmental departments. He also talked about their efforts and programmes on human resource development in cooperation with various international organisations.

In return, Mr. Mehmet Fatih Serenli informed Dr. Tajalsir Ibrahim Kardaman, Director of Continuing Education Office at QU about the capacity building programmes which the SESRIC is leading, maily the Statistical Capacity Building Programme (StatCaB), which is based on the analysis of the needs and capacities of the relevant institutions operating in the OIC Member Countries, and matching these needs and capacities through sending experts among these countries to offer the needed training programmes.

Representatives of SESRIC, QSA and Qatar University conferred on the possibility to develop a capacity building programme for the region. Such programme will be provided in line with the strategic plans to meet the needs and capacities of the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) through conducting full-fledged surveys and taking into consideration the specific peculiarities of national statistical systems of the countries. The two parties consented on preparing a preliminary agreement with a view to establishing a strong partnership between the two institutions and with a view to organising short and long term training programmes on various socio-economical subjects for the benefit of the region.
