SESRIC Participates in “Data Day at WTO”

WTO Headquarters, Geneva-SwitzerlandThe World Trade Organization (WTO), in cooperation with ITC, UNCTAD and the World Bank, hosted on 18-19 May 2009 at its headquarters in Geneva – Switzerland, 'Data Day at WTO', an inter-agency initiative aimed at raising awareness on a range of data-related issues, familiarizing users further with multiple data applications, drawing attention to continuing needs for data, and promoting coherence and co-operation among international agencies that manage data. Mr. Atilla Karaman, Researcher, participated in the “Data Day at WTO”.

On the first day of the event within six panels various topics were covered related to trade policy in:

  1. Services
  2. Tariffs and trade
  3. Non-tariff measures
  4. Agriculture-specific issues
  5. Trade facilitation, and
  6. Use and misuse of indicators and models.

On the second day, more technical information on available databases and indicators maintained by agencies in order to respond to specific demands were covered. The presentations were organised according to four clusters dedicated to

  1. Tariff Analysis
  2. Merchandise Trade Flows
  3. Trade in Services and
  4. Trade Facilitation, as well as a presentation on GTAP modelling.
