Welcome reception for the newly appointed Director General of SESRIC

SESRIC organised a reception to welcome H.E. Mr. Nebil Dabur, newly appointed Director General of SESRIC and to bid farewell to H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya, Former Director General of SESRIC, on 28 March 2019 at Swissôtel in Ankara, Turkey.

H.E. Mr. Nebil Dabur, a Turkish national born in Gaza, Palestine, has been appointed by the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the new Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) as of 27th March 2019 successor to the former Director General, H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya.

H.E. Mr. Yavuz Selim Kıran, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Turkey, H.E. Mr. Seyit Ahmet Baş, President of Turkish Court of Orders, H.E. Mr. Yunus Arıncı, President of State Supervisory Council of Republic of Turkey, Ambassadors of OIC Member States, representatives of International Organizations, Rectors and members of universities, Presidents and Directors from several Turkish Institutions, as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations attended the event.

On his remarks, H.E. Mr. Yavuz Selim Kıran, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, highlighted the role of SESRIC in analysing the threats in education, culture and many other fields and building up policies on these issues and that SESRIC's efforts are highly appreciated. He also underlined the importance of the cooperation among Islamic world and that H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, as the OIC Term President had enormous efforts to strengthen the cooperation among Islamic world.

H.E. Mr. Kıran also congratulated H.E. Mr. Nebil Dabur on his post as Director General of SESRIC and reiterated the full support of Republic of Turkey for H.E. Dabur and wished all the success to H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya in his post at the OIC General Secretariat.

H.E. Amb. Faed Mustapha, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Turkey, congratulated H.E. Mr. Dabur on his new post and wished all the success to H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya in his post at the OIC General Secretariat. He highlighted the role of OIC and SESRIC as a subsidiary organ of OIC. Amb. Mustapha also talked about the historical role of the organization in Palestine cause in particular and in general for all OIC Member Countries.

During his welcoming speech at the reception, H.E. Mr. Dabur wished all the success to H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya in his post at the OIC General Secretariat and he mentioned that Amb. Kulaklıkaya will stay a member in the OIC family and he is confident that the Centre will continue benefiting from his experience.

H.E. Mr. Dabur underlined that the Centre will continue its efforts to increase the quantity and the quality of its services to the OIC and its Member Countries in the three areas of the mandate entrusted to SESRIC 40 years ago; namely statistics, research and training. He also added that SESRIC will continue its efforts to enrich SESRIC’s contribution to the OIC policy dialogue mechanism through analysing the current situation at the OIC level and suggesting the appropriate policy actions to be taken to address the challenges and strengthen the intra-Islamic cooperation in the relevant area.

H.E. Mr. Dabur joint SESRIC in 1996 and served first as an economist, then from 2005 as Director of Economic and Social Research Department, and later, from 2015 to 2019, as Assistant Director General. He holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Birzeit University in Ramallah, Palestine and an M.Sc. in Economics from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey in 1993.

During his 23 years of service at SESRIC, Mr. Dabur has accumulated extensive professional experience in both the work of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its institutions as well as in the socio-economic development affairs of the OIC Member Countries.
