The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), and UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) will jointly organize a side event on “Private Sector Engagement in South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development” on 20 March 2019 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The panel discussion will take place at Centro Cultural Kirchner from 01:00 pm to 03:00 pm on the sidelines of The Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40 Conference), which will take place in the capital Buenos Aires between 20 and 22 March 2019.
The panel will host speakers from SESRIC, UNDP IICPSD and UNOSSC, high-level representatives from governments and technical/development cooperation agencies, as well as professionals from the private sector such the representatives of businesses and business associations, public sector and academia with the expertise and experience in the field of private sector engagement in South-South cooperation.
The main aim of the panel discussion is to explore ways to mainstream the private sector engagement in South-South cooperation through the integration of the private sector into new and existing SSTC initiatives. The event will demonstrate good practices from the field and will illustrate ways to create an enabling environment to promote private sector engagement in South-South cooperation.
The overarching theme of the BAPA+40 Conference is “The role of South-South cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: challenges and opportunities”. The Conference aims to provide further momentum to encourage intensive and collaborative actions by developing southern countries, through partnerships and collaboration and to strengthen the role of South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
