Study Visit on ‘Metadata’ to Jordan

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Study Visit on ‘Metadata’ to Jordan for the benefit of the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) of Saudi Arabia on 7-9 May 2018. The study visit was hosted by the Department of Statistics (DOS) of Jordan with the participation of Mr. Khaled FAQIHI, Expert on Statistical Methodologies at GASTAT of Saudi Arabia.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); metadata covers developing, harmonising and standardising metadata models, structures and frameworks in the context of statistical information processing and dissemination, deals also with harmonising the statistical terminology and definitions.

The Study Visit on ‘Metadata’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to metadata
  • Types of metadata
  • Metadata management
  • Metadata tools
  • Metadata software
  • GSBM, DDI, SIMS
  • Metadata strategy
  • Quality of dissemination
