Technical Mission on ‘International Trade Statistics’ in Cote d'Ivoire

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ at National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Cote d'Ivoire on 1 – 3 August 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Bernard NGUINGNANG, Expert from National Statistical Institute (INS) of Cameroon, with the participation of relevant officials of the INS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); International trade statistics – includes statistics on all cross border transactions recorded in the balance of payments, includes topics like trade in goods and services, external positions and debt, foreign direct investment, foreign affiliated trade, tariffs, market access, foreign aid, development assistance, resource flows to developing countries.

The Technical Mission on ‘International Trade Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Definition of terms, concepts and phrases
  • Classifications and conversions
  • Trade types
  • Indices of external trade
  • Calculation of unit value indices
  • Units involved in trade
  • Calculation and aggregation of indices
  • Statistical sources
