SESRIC Participated in the 4th Meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics for the Arab Countries

The Statistical, Economic, Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Cooperation (SESRIC) participated in the 4th Meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics for the Arab Countries organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) on 9-10 May 2016 in Dead Sea, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 13 OIC Member Countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen. Representatives of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), United Nations Woman Regional Office for Arab States (UN-Women-ROAS), and World Health Organization for Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO-EMRO) attended the Meeting. The Centre was represented by Ms. Nenden Octavarulia Shanty, Researcher at Statistics and Information Department.

The main objectives of the Meeting were to:

  • Improve the coordination and cooperation to produce relevant gender statistics for policy making.
  • Share good practices and on new collection tools for gender statistics to produce relevant information for monitoring and reporting.
  • Enhance measurement methods to analyse gender statistics for effective programme and policy making.
  • Share good practices on capacity building activities and dissemination methods.
