Third Meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs)

The Third Meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), was held in Mexico City, Mexico from 30 March to 1 April 2016. The Meeting was hosted jointly by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. Dr. Atilla Karaman from the Statistics and Information Department and Dr. Kenan Bağcı from the Economic and Social Research Department represented the SESRIC at the Meeting.

 

The Meeting had the following objectives:

  • Establishment of a tier system for indicators
  • Establishment of procedures for the methodological review of indicators, including approval mechanisms of needed revisions
  • Development of global reporting mechanisms, including identifying entities responsible for compiling data for global reporting on inpidual indicators and discussing data flow from the national to the global level
  • Discussion of the work plan and next steps

The IAEG-SDGs was established by the UN Statistical Commission at its 46th Session to develop an indicator framework for the monitoring of the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development at the global level, and to support its implementation.
