Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Capital of Islamic Tourism 2017

Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah was selected the ‘Capital of Islamic Tourism 2017’ during the 9th Session of Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) held on 21-23 December 2015 in Niamey, Niger.

Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah is home to more than 200 sites and tourist places, including historical buildings and archaeological sites of religious importance, such as the Prophet's Mosque and mosques from the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as well as historic buildings such as the Urwah ibn Zubayr Palace, Castle of Quba and the Hejaz Railway Museum.

Local media reported that more than 300 events will be held at over 40 destinations, presenting interesting and attractive cultural and touristic programs.
